About this site
What is SCUCNews?
SCUCNews is an independent local news site covering Schertz, Cibolo, and Universal City, Texas — the SCUC corridor along I-35 northeast of San Antonio.
We cover city council votes, public spending, new development, local crime, and the decisions that affect your daily life. No press releases. No puff pieces. Just what happened, what it costs, and why it matters.
Why this exists
Nearly 100,000 people live in the SCUC area. Three city councils make decisions every month about your tax dollars, your roads, your water bill, and what gets built next door. Almost nobody is watching.
National news won't cover your city council. The San Antonio paper might, once a year. SCUCNews covers it every week — because the people deciding your property tax rate are right here, and they should know someone's paying attention.
What we cover
- City government — Council votes, zoning changes, spending decisions across all three cities
- Public spending — Budgets, contracts, consultant fees. Your money, your business.
- Development — New construction, rezoning, permits. What's being built and where.
- Local crime — Weekly blotter from Guadalupe County and local police departments
- Community — Business openings, school news, events worth knowing about
Who we are
SCUCNews was founded in February 2026 by a local resident who got tired of finding out what the city council did three months after it happened.
We're independent — not affiliated with any city, political party, or real estate developer. We don't run press releases as news. Every fact traces to a source, and we link to primary documents so you can verify it yourself.
