đźš— Drug Chase Ends in Guadalupe River

SEGUIN — A nine-minute, multi-agency pursuit ended at the Guadalupe River bridge near Seguin on Feb. 9 after a suspect fled from Bexar County into Guadalupe County on Interstate 10.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office initiated the chase after receiving intelligence on a drug load in an orange Hyundai traveling eastbound on I-10. The vehicle entered Guadalupe County near mile marker 593, where GCSO deputies deployed spike strips.

The suspect exited onto U.S. Highway 90 toward Seguin, stopped near the river bridge, then fled on foot into the Guadalupe River. He dumped a backpack containing what authorities described as approximately 25 pounds of a methamphetamine-fentanyl mixture, estimated at $250,000 in street value. The backpack was recovered.

The suspect, identified by BCSO as Christian Lopez, 20, was detained at approximately 10:44 a.m. with aerial support. He was charged with manufacturing/delivery of a controlled substance and evading arrest with a vehicle. No injuries were reported.

đźš™ Stolen BMW Recovered

WEIL ROAD — GCSO Auto Theft Unit recovered a damaged 2023 BMW SUV in the 2500 block of Weil Road on Feb. 9.

The vehicle was stolen from Austin Police Department jurisdiction. No arrests have been announced.


🔎 Fugitive Turns Himself In

GUADALUPE COUNTY — John Tanner Schlinger, 25, turned himself in Feb. 11 after GCSO issued a public alert seeking his whereabouts.

Schlinger was wanted for failure to appear on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. His bond was set at $100,000.

He was booked into the Guadalupe County Adult Detention Center. Court records show Schlinger had a prior charge of theft of a firearm on the September 2025 docket.


⚖️ Courtroom Incident

CIBOLO — Charles Wyatt, 60, of Cibolo, stabbed himself in the neck with a makeshift plastic knife Feb. 12 seconds after being sentenced to 12 years for child sexual abuse charges.

🏢 Valentine’s Day Jail Bookings

GUADALUPE COUNTY JAIL — Two people were booked on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.

Deanna Denise Dean was booked for driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15 or higher.

Christopher Hardin was booked for possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 2 (less than 1 gram and 1-4 grams).


🛣️ I-10 Safe Corridor Operation Results

GUADALUPE COUNTY — Results from a three-day traffic enforcement blitz on I-10 were released this week.

The operation ran Feb. 3-5 in the I-10 construction zone between mile markers 604 and 617. GCSO and Texas DPS ran the effort together.
